The National Archives of Brunei Darussalam
The National Archives of Brunei Darussalam is one of government agency of His Majesty the Sultan dan Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, established under The National Archives of Brunei Darussalam Act, 1975, Chapter 116, Revised Edition 1983. Currently, the National Archives of Brunei Darussalam is administrated under the Museums Department, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Brunei Darussalam. It is situated along Jalan Dewan Majlis (adjacent to the State Legislature building), Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam.

As stated under the Act, the National Archives of Brunei Darussalam plays important role in providing consultancy services on effective records management in the Civil Service. Records is being define as “a recorded information produced or received in the initiation, conduct or completion of an institutional or individual activity and that comprises content, context and structure sufficient to provide evidence of the activity.". The evidence might be provided regardless of its format. This might took the form of government files, maps, plans, photographs, audio-visual materials and oral history documentation.

The National Archives of Brunei Darussalam is the official custodian of the corporate memory of the nation. Besides providing for government accountability, it is also providing evidences that protect the rights of citizens. Additionally, the National Archives of Brunei Darussalam is an important research centre on the history of nation-building of Brunei Darussalam. It is also tasked to promotes public interest in cultural heritage and history through public educational programmes.

We strive for excellent public service through the use of best practices and standards. These includes ISO 15489, ISO 9001 and Code of Ethics for Archivists. The National Archives of Brunei Darussalam is affiliated as full member of the International Council on Archives (ICA) and the Southeast Asia Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (SARBICA). In addition, it has participated in various other international organizations such as Southeast Asia and Pacific Audio-Visual Archives (SEAPAVAA).
